Valentine's Day gifts

You thought that half-wilted grocery-store-bought bouquet of flowers and generic card you got last year for Valentine’s Day was bad, huh? How about a diet cookbook, frozen microwaveable pizzas, a shower curtain, or an encyclopedia (remember those)? Or, of course, nothing? We asked Yahoo! Shine readers to tell us about their worst Valentine’s Day presents ever, and sad, funny tales of Valentine’s Day woe poured in.

Rather than reservations at a nice local restaurant, many told us about getting thoughtless break-up messages, while others realized as the day unfolded it was time to break up with their thoughtless guys. Amid the usual mix of last-minute bad-gift procurement, there was the unusual: Shine user RayRay’s box of

We’ve rounded up the worst of the worst among the hundreds of responses. You may recognize some of these universally bad gifts. Remember, it is the thought that counts, but when the thought is fleeting, last-minute, or downright inconsiderate, the result is a lasting bad memory.

A Valentines Special

Words. Put together into sentiments, expressions of love and compliment, kind words spoken or the written word have an impact on us all. It's why writers write, why romantic lines become famous, love inspired is how poets dream, and film makers seek out a fairytale that will touch our very hearts. What you say, and how you say it, counts. As mother always told us, if you haven't anything nice to say-we all know how that goes. But what if you do? Have something nice to say that is? To a special lover, child, friend, relative..

Sexy Valentine’s Day's Dresses

The most romantic time of year is coming. Yeah, that is Valentine’s Day.For most women, it is a difficult work to find a perfect outfit for this romantic & sexy for Valentine’s Day

Valentines Day Introduce red Dresses

There are mainly three dresses that are popular with Valentines Day. The sexy queen of heart costume is not only sexy but unique. The dress has red, black and yellow colors and also comes with a halter neck. The dress is also strapless and comes with black and white striped stockings to compliment it. The other fancy dress for Valentines Day is the cupid costume. The costume comes with a red top and a white skirt decorated with red hearts. The dress also comes with accessories such as a pair of white wings and red stockings, a headpiece, the cupid’s arrow and bow. The prisoner of love costume also makes a great Valentines Day dress. The costume includes a white mini dress with red heart decorations all over and a matching hat. The dress also comes with accessories such a pair of red shoes, a key necklace and convict fingernails.

There are other dresses that you can wear on Valentines Day and still look glamorous. Pants are not effective for Valentines Day. It is advisable that you go for dresses or skirts as they appear fashionable to wear on this day. However, you should be slow on colors and prints since they suit differently to different body types. Red is the color of love but this does not necessarily mean that you have to wear a red Valentines Day dress. Red color comes with many shades and it would be important that you choose a shade that will compliment your skin tone. The little black dress would make a perfect outfit for Valentines Day. Black was initially associated with death and mourning but is today worn even during happy celebrations.

Pastel colors would be effective to wear during the day while solid colors would be perfect for the night. However, if you have a fuller body, it would be advisable that you go for Valentines Day dresses with dark colors. Colors such as black or dark rd will trim your figure thus making you more attractive. Patterns and prints would only aid in making you look fuller so you should avoid such dresses on this special day. If you must wear Valentines Day dresses with prints and patterns, ensure that the prints are vertical rather than horizontal as they will give you a slimmer figure. You should also be careful to compliment your dress with the right accessories. Ensure that you go for accessories that will make you appear more feminine such as belts, a pair of sexy boots, sandals wit ankle straps, a clutch bag and great jewelry.

Secret Of Valentines Day

While we understand your curiosity when you get an email from a “secret admirer,” it is important that you do not follow links or even open emails from sources that are unknown or appear suspicious. According to Panda Security, cyber criminals use e-greeting cards or emails with subject lines relating to Valentines Day to get the victim’s attention, and hide malware within these messages that capture sensitive information to be used for fraud and identity theft.

This year, identity thieves will likely be utilizing social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter to exploit the wide user base and easy infection rate of these kinds of sites. Because these websites are based on sharing, it is easy for the infection to spread quickly and widely among users, making them favorites amongst criminals.

In order to not be crushed when you find out that your secret admirer is actually a hacker, not to mention avoid potential identity theft, Panda Security has released the following guidelines to help you avoid phishing attempts this Valentine’s Day.

First, NEVER open emails of messages received on a social networking site from a source you do not know or trust. If you do happen to open one by mistake, exit as quickly as possible and be sure to not click on any of the links within the message. Every time you click a link or agree to download something, you make it easier for the malware to gather your information.

Valentines Day Kids Treats

I think Valentines Day is actually more fun for the kids than for us adults! HayHay always loved giving the little boxes of these sweetheart conversation hearts to his friends along with their Valentine card.

It was always so much fun for the kids to address all their Valentine cards and decorate a shoebox or little brown bag to take to school to collect all their treats. I miss those days!

Even when HayHay was too young for school, our neighborhood playgroup hosted some very fun Valentines Day Parties for all the kiddos. HayHay is too old for that now, but for those of you with the little ones, here are a few ideas.

Whether your hosting your own Valentines Day Party or taking some goodies to a school party or a friends house, here are a few cute and easy ideas.

My friend, J, made these adorable pretzel rods for our Race for the Cure bake sale, but they would be perfect for a Valentines Day Party. You could decorate them with more pink and red hearts and pink sprinkles.

Again, these are pretty easy! Just melt the white chocolate squares, dip the pretzel rods into the melted chocolate, and roll in various decorations. It would even be more fun to do this at the party and let the kids decorate their own.

Valentine Celebrate the Pinkness

Some people think Valentine’s Day was dreamed up by Hallmark or Russell Stover. That’s a pretty cynical view though, don’t you think? Most people do think Valentine’s Day is just for people who currently have a sweetheart, but I don’t buy that either. I don’t have a Valentine this year, but it’s ok, really. Don’t cry for me. For me, Valentine’s Day is a genuine, validated, honest-to-goodness reason to celebrate my favorite color…pink! It’s a beautiful thing. Let me count the ways I love pink pink and more pink!

  • Pink - in some shade – looks good on everyone, whether it’s clothes or makeup.
  • Pink goes with every other color. Think about it. Pink with neutrals: brown, gray, black, white. Pink with brights like orange and yellow sends you off on a crazy fun 60s trip. Pink with green is fresh, pink with blue is sweet, and pink with red is beyond fun and cheerful. What have we missed? Pink with purple? With aqua? It all goes together. Can you say that about any color? I think not! Pink rules!
  • Pink works in unexpected ways in decor. It doesn’t have to be Barbie or Strawberry Shortcake. It can be a subtle accent shade, or it can be a strong punch of unexpected color. How brave are you? I’m pretty brave…the condo I lived in for 10 years had pink living room walls. I mean pink! Ralph Lauren Duchesse Satin metallic luminescent pink walls! Sadly, they discontinued this paint, so I can never recreate that room that I loved.
  • Pink‘s music is a great choice for your iPod cardio playlist!

Valentine’s Day's Special Red Velvet Cupcakes

Well How about another colorful cupcake for Valentines Day? By the way, have you made the Pomeranian Pomegranate Cupcakes that I talked about a few days ago? If not, here’s option #2 for your Valentine’s Day, and it’s another vegan one!

These are actually called Crimson Velveteen Cupcakes (I love the name!) and they’re from Isa Chandra Moskowitz’s book Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World: 75 Dairy-Free Recipes for Cupcakes that Rule. I have several of Isa’s other cookbooks, but I just got this one and these cupcakes are the first thing I’ve baked from it. This cute little cookbook was named the “Cookbook of the Year” by VegNews.

So, back to the baking. There was nothing weird in this recipe that required an emergency trip to my favorite little hippie health food store (although that would be dandy with me since I love it there). Just flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder and soda, soy milk (I used almond), canola oil and flavorings. It was super easy to whip up, so the recipe wins kudos for that too.

History OF Valentine

Every year, the fourteenth day of the month of February has millions across the world presenting their loved ones with candy, flowers, chocolates and other lovely gifts. In many countries, restaurants and eateries are seen to be filled with couples who are eager to celebrate their relationship and the joy of their togetherness through delicious cuisines. There hardly seems to be a young man or woman who is not keen to make the most of the day.
The reason behind all of this is a kindly cleric named Valentine who died more than a thousand years ago.

It is not exactly known why the 14th of February is known as Valentine's Day or if the noble Valentine really had any relation to this day. The history of Valentine's Day is impossible to be obtained from any archive and the veil of centuries gone by has made the origin behind this day more difficult to trace. It is only some legends that are our source for the history of Valentine's Day.

The modern St. Valentine's Day celebrations are said to have been derived from both ancient Christian and Roman tradition. As per one legend, the holiday has originated from the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalis/Lupercalia, a fertility celebration that used to observed annually on February 15. But the rise of Christianity in Europe saw many pagan holidays being renamed for and dedicated to the early Christian martyrs. Lupercalia was no exception. In 496 AD, Pope Gelasius turned Lupercalia into a Christian feast day and set its observance a day earlier, on February 14. He proclaimed February 14 to be the feast day in honor of Saint Valentine, a Roman martyr who lived in the 3rd century. It is this St. Valentine whom the modern Valentine's Day honors.

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, there were at least three early Christian saints by the name of Valentine. While one was a priest in Rome, another was a bishop in Terni. Nothing is known about the third St. Valentine except that he met his end in Africa. Surprisingly, all three of them were said to have been martyred on 14th February.

It is clear that Pope Gelasius intended to honor the first of these three aforementioned men. Most scholars believe that this St. Valentine was a priest who lived around 270 AD in Rome and attracted the disfavor of Roman emperor Claudius II who ruled during this time.

Happy Valentine's Day

Apparently, the best idea for someone special on Valentines Day is to take them out to a romantic spot outside like the beach or a pretty field of flowers somewhere they won’t forget, at sunset cause that’s the most romantic lighting and have a well cooked dinner of their favorite meal and desert. And have their favorite flowers and candles spread all over the place.

Moreso, And spell out “I Love You” in flowers on the ground with a little gift laying inside the heart. Have romantic music playing in the background. After eating the delicious dinner ask for a small dance. While dancing whisper reasons why you love the person your with.

A lovely day is made up of 24 hours.

A lovely week is made up of 7 lovely days.
A lovely year is made up of 52 lovely weeks

“Love is the emblem of eternity: it confounds all notion of time: effaces all memory of a beginning, all fear of an end”

I love you not because you are beautiful
I love you not because you are rich
I love you not because you have the characteristics that I am looking for
I love you, simply because you are what you are.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

“When you smiled you had my undivided attention. When you laughed you had my urge to laugh with you. When you cried you had my urge to hold you. When you said you loved me, you had my heart forever.”

“Love, an emotion so strong that you would give up everything, to just feel it once, to know that you are part of something special. To know that you can feel what love really is, to know, to feel, to love.”

“The hours I spend with you I look upon as sort of a perfumed garden, a dim twilight, and a fountain singing to it. You and you alone make me feel that I am alive. Other men it is said have seen angels, but I have seen thee and thou art enough.”

Valentine LOve

spirit of Valentine’s day and and its week, what is a better way to kickstart the week than to share with you some of Africa’s most-loved songs from it’s kings and queens.

Through the years we’ve seen more emotion through song from some of Africa’s most gifted crooners. For the most part most of us have fallen in love with their songs that remind us that despite the ups and downs of love, it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

To kicksatrt this years selction of African love tunes I had to take it back to a hit single that rocked Southern Africa by Oliver Mtukudzi and Ringo Madlingozi – Into Yam, followed by Nigerian bad boy’s P-SQAURE – I LOVE YOU, from Congo Fally Ipupa – Chaise Eletrique , Corneille – Too much of everything from Rwanda

What Is vanetntine

Like two people in any relationship, there are personality traits that are desired, admired and loved, and there are characteristics that repel, discourage and disappoint. Wine and chocolate, it seems, are no different. But find the right combination of traits and it is possible that, despite the odds, something wonderful can happen.

So introduce yourself to red wine and chocolate and see what happens. If all else fails, there’s always a dozen roses.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

What to Give Your Partner on Valentine’s Day

Read my articles Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas: For Your Boyfriend and Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas: For Your Friends.

Give an edible gift to your candy-addicted friend, like a paint can full of Hershey’s Kisses from Dylan’s Candy Bar. This is definitely the gift I’d like to receive most.

Bring someone flowers – whether it’s your man, your BFF, or your mom! Or get crafty & save money by learning to make a bouquet of origami flowers.

Go traditional & get your boyfriend an Orient Watch – they’re classic and stylish – perfect for the guy who has everything.

If you’re rolling in money, a red iPod Shuffle makes a fabulous gift for the music guru in your life.

Give kisses! They’re always appropriate on Valentine’s Day, and even better, they’re free.

Ideas Of Valentine’s Day

If you’re single, dress up and go out on dancing by yourself or with a bunch of your girlfriends. Laughingly reject every guy that comes up to you, or go the opposite route and see how many numbers you can pick up.

Buy yourself some Godiva and don’t feel guilty about polishing more than one piece off. Everyone deserves good chocolate.

What to Wear on Valentine’s Day

If there’s a cute boy in your life, get him to pick up Chinese food while you supply the DVD’s. Have a movie fest on the couch and boycott the whole Valentine’s Day dinner date thing.

Go to the top of the highest building in your city at night with someone special. Don’t live in a city? How about a walk on the beach, or a romantic picnic on a rooftop? Too cold? Stay in and make a blanket fort, 1st grade style.

Unattached this year but craving some bling? Who says you can’t buy your own? Tarina Tarantino makes some amazingly girly pieces that you’ll want to give to yourself.

Smudge some bright lavender eyeshadow like MAC Beautiful Iris around your eyes instead of eyeliner. It’s unexpected and so pretty with every eye color. Finish with lots of mascara.

Incorporate a little bit of pink or red into your outfit (a fuchsia scarf or a fire-engine red bag are two possibilites), or boycott the entire concept and wear lots of black. There are no fashion rules for V-Day, so wear what you want!

Wear bright red or hot pink lipstick. Why? Because you can. Stick to warmer (peachy, orangey and coral) shades if you have a tan or olive skin tone, and go for bluer, more purpley reds and pinks if you’re fair-skinned or very dark skinned.

Sport a dress with bright purple tights. Add rocker-chick appeal with a pair of badass ankle boots.

Put on a candy necklace and try to avoid eating it for as long as you can.

Dress up for a fancy night out, even if you’re just going to stay in with some friends. Just because you aren’t going out, it’s no reason you can’t look amazing.

Valentine's Day

romantic date or made plans with your friends… either way the hardest part is over, right? I always find that more than the actual plan making process, I struggle with what to wear! Waking up on the day and searching my wardrobe is always really stressful, so this year I’m going to plan my outfit in advance. Here are my favorite seven fashion ideas for Valentines Day!

Have to work, or you just want a cheap and easy way to update your usual outfit, try grabbing some cute red accessories like this adorable red headband and a red vest top and teaming it with some skinny jeans and a super cute pair of heels.
