It’s that flesh-baring time of year again…Summer is here! But before you hit the beach or head off on vacation, here are a few tips and trends to help your style sizzle in the sun.
1. Get a spray-tan 2 days before you go on vacation, this gives the product enough time to fade into a natural glow, and it’s so much more flattering and slimming to be bronzed the first time you don that bikini.
2. Steer clear of this season’s big trend for all-in-one swimsuits with cut-outs all over the body, your tan lines won’t thank you!
3. Invest in a pair of cork or wooden wedges. By far a chicer alternative to metallic strappy sandals on holiday this season. The nude or brown heel will also create an optical illusion to make your legs look longer.
4. Save money and make your own cut-off shorts. Chop an old pair of loose-fitting jeans and leave the pockets hanging through underneath, or cut them longer to a Bermuda short, just above the knee.
5. Invest in one attention-grabbing, on-trend piece. My personal favourite this season? A panama hat. Whether you pair this with a long floral maxi dress, a bright kaftan or just jeans and a tank top, this item will pop you’ outfit and give an edge to your look.
6. Don’t be scared of a high-waist. Contrary to popular belief, high-waisted shorts and jeans actually hold in your stomach and give that beautiful hourglass shape. For an extra cinch, add a thick brown leather belt.
7. Think orange. Summer’s hottest shade looks great with dark denim flares, white linen shorts or gold accessories. Or just paint it on your nails instead!
8. More is more: bling it on. Jewellery needs to be stacked and layered up the arm or around the neck – but opt for natural colours and materials like wood, cork, brushed gold and olive green.
9. Buy a one-shoulder jumpsuit a size too big. Such a flattering and easy-to-wear piece for both night and day: just remember the look is loose and boho – not tight and trashy!
10. Stock up on waterproof eyeliner and mascara. Sun, sea and sand does not for flawless faces make! This will prevent any panda-eye situations.
